My iPhone Theme

Dekstop Screenshot ThumbnailI treated myself to a nice new iPhone last week and am LOVING it!

My phone is jailbroken and unlocked now (using PwnageTool). This means I can run all kinda of funky apps and games. I decided recently to design my own theme to make my phone feel more like "mine". Here are some screenshots. I'm working with a friend on how to release this theme along with some he has done too…

Get a free Mini Mac

Apr
2008

Free MiniMacI dont normally do these kinds of deals - but I wanted to sign up for LoveFilm anyway and in this case it helped my mate get 1 referral closer to getting a free Mini Mac. I quite fancy a free Mini Mac too so I'm gonna give it a go!

Basically the deal is you register with the site (via my referral link) and then sign up for one of their affiliate services such as LoveFilm (a really cool UK DVD Rental Service). That then counts as 1 referral for myself. All you then need to do is get 10 mates to register in the same way and then you too get a free Mini Mac!

Any regulars to this site will know that...

  1. I have recently got a Sony Ericsson K850i!
  2. I REALLY like free things!

I'm getting a new k850i!

k850i Phone ThumbnailI just got off the phone with the O2 Upgrades team. I suggested that I was interested in either the Nokia N95 OR the Sony Ericsson k850i. I was informed that neither the N95 or k850i could not be done for free on the budget/contract I was asking for so I asked to be put through to the retention team. After being on hold for a few minutes the call was retrieved from the abyss that was the call waiting queue and I got a good offer…

Themes 4 Ur Mobile Phone LogoAre you in need of free Nokia N95 themes? I think I might have found just the site for you. Themes4urMobilePhone.com has just released a new section dedicated for Nokia N95 Themes - and they're all FREE!

A while ago I write a blog article about Free Nokia N73 Themes and it has proven very popular. I'm personally thinking about getting an N95 and this is definately going to be the site I use to customise it!

My first project using Ogre

20
May
2007

With some help from a good friend, I took my first steps into game-making using C++ last night. I used a graphics engine called Ogre3D and tried to mimic a game I started making in Dark Basic Pro a few weeks ago. To my astonishment, within a few hours I'd managed to replicate the basic layout of the game using tools which cost absolutely nothing!

Social Statistics module released

Social Statistics

I've been working on it for a few days now, but its finally released. Social Statistics is being used on this site and can be found on any page on an enabled site in a block. It provides pluggable statistics for (currently) 3 major Social Networking websites; Del.icio.us, Digg and Ma.gnolia. It currently boasts caching of statistics for a configurable amount of time, AHAH retrieval of statistics which are not cached (thus not slowing down page loads) and an API to make the project extendible to anybody who cares to add a Social Network to the mixture!

The core module consists, mostly, of a few menu callbacks and an API. This API allows the user to enable any number of enabled modules to add their contribution to the block. The 3 enabled sites all have an XML based API, but each does things slightly differently - hence my choice in using them as examples of the module as a whole.

You can find this module over in the Drupal Projects section.

Optical Illusion

A friend sent me a link to one of those optical illusion thingies. I'm often very sceptical of them however upon inspection, this one seemed different and legitimate. I dont think its fake - but I equally dont understand why its screws with your eye's so much! Here are the instructions from the website…

ColorJack is a recently popularized Color Theory Application

They have a fantastic online system and an offline OSX Dashboard Widget. Basically, they have a whole load of settings which you chose from. You then drag one of the points around on the colour "sphere" (circle) and you are provided with a list of complimentary colours.

To try this out, get your browser over to the ColorJack Sphere where you can try it online.

Pongis

I've just released a new game - its a VERY simple adaptation of the classic, pong, but it has a twist in the form of tennis. You must rally the ball back and forth - the ball gaining speed slightly on every return. Players win points (and serve) by knocking the ball past their opponent, either through a cunning move or by making them lose out in a game of reactions.

Checkout the game here - Pongis - Where Pong Meets Tennis

This is my entry into the Medialess Challenge set on February 2007 which was to re-invent a classic (rather than remake). This has turned into quite a fun game!

This game is not called Pongish - as I keep typing it!

1000 Damn good icons!

Jan
2007

I have a never ending quest to find good free stuff. Finding free stuff is easy - its the GOOD bit that stumps me…

Often I dont even mind paying for something if its quality, but obviously free is better!

Quality Icons are something I am always on the lookout for and I have been a member of Icon Buffet for a long time now — I'm a big fan of the free deliveries — and, although I've purchased a few packs (Oslo, Oslo Buzz and Soho), they are very expensive for a "bedroom programmer" such as myself.

Cloggy's D3D Plugin

Jan
2007

I just found this plugin (again) on The Games Creators Forum. Basically it adds new features to Dark Basic Pro. I'd used an older version of it but this one seems to have plenty more! Hopefully I'll put the project I'm using it for up soon - a resource management game

Fireworks Screensaver

About the screensaver

This started out as my entry for the Fireworks Challenge and I decided to build upon it to make a screensaver of it. Its pretty simple - no sounds (sounds in screensavers annoy me!), a city made of white boxes and brightly coloured fireworks

The challenge was actually back in June 2006 and its only recently, with fireworks going off outside, that I've decided to finish it!

3D Gravity Screensaver

About the screensaver

This is a game I started earlier this year (about June 2006) and - as is usual for me - I didn't finish it. Well now its certainly closer to being finished! A working screensaver with mesmorizing balls whooshing everywhere.

GraviKill

16
Aug
2006

About the game

GraviKill started out as an experiment with the effect of a gravity field on a moving item. When I found you could get really cool sling-shots from the formula, I thought "What if I tried to fire something from A to B but it got effected by pushes and pulls in between?"… and thus GraviKill was born!

Dodge The Fart

About the game

This is a game I started over a year ago and never really got around to finishing. Well now I decided to actually try to finish a game! With the help of The Game Creators forum (a special thanks to "Freddix" for compiling The Ultimate Shader Pack AND creating the eXtends plugin for Dark Basic Professional) I have managed to not only improve the games efficiency but I have also given it quite a bit more eye candy too!
